Guides for fightwear brands · Sialkot, Pakistan
Two shorts that look similar but are built for different rules and movements.
Short answer: Grappling shorts avoid anything that can catch fingers or toes (no pockets, no exposed hook-and-loop) and usually use an elastic waistband and stretch fabric. MMA shorts typically have a hook-and-loop closure with drawcord, side splits for kicks and a slightly longer leg. Grappling shorts suit BJJ brands; MMA shorts suit striking and MMA brands.
| Grappling shorts | MMA shorts | |
|---|---|---|
| Closure | Elastic + drawcord | Hook-and-loop + drawcord |
| Pockets | None | Usually none for fighting |
| Fabric | High-stretch woven | Woven, often 4-way stretch |
| Leg | Shorter to mid | Mid, with splits |
| Splits | Optional | Common |

If your audience grapples, start with grappling shorts and a rash guard. If they strike or do MMA, start with MMA shorts. See grappling shorts and MMA fight shorts.
