Polyester/Elastane Fabric

The workhorse fabric of fightwear: durable, colorfast, quick-drying and made for sublimation.

Folded white performance fabric

What it is

Polyester/elastane (also called polyester/spandex or poly/Lycra) is a knit fabric that combines polyester fibers with elastane for stretch. For rash guards and compression it's usually around 80–90% polyester and 10–20% elastane, at roughly 160–240 GSM.

Why it's used in fightwear

  • Takes sublimation: the high polyester content holds sublimation dye for vivid, permanent prints.
  • Durable: polyester resists abrasion from mats.
  • Quick-drying: polyester absorbs little water.
  • Stretch and recovery: elastane lets the fabric stretch with the body and snap back.

FAQ

Polyester/Elastane Fabric: common questions

Polyester/elastane is more colorfast with sublimation and better value. Nylon/elastane feels softer and cooler but needs different printing.
